Aquileia, a UNESCO heritage site

Located 12 km away from Grado, Aquileia is a Unesco World Heritage city thanks to the importance of its archaeological area and the beauty of the floor mosaics it houses.

The largest and best known is the mosaic of the basilica of S. Maria Assunta, dating back to the fourth century, but also others make Aquileia a sort of capital of Western Roman mosaics.
